The performer, recognized for his portrayal of Andrés de Fonollosa, also known as Berlin, in the spin-off series from Money Heist, has confirmed his departure from the character. This announcement was made in Seville, the city that served as the main setting for the second season of the show.
“"I have made the decision to let him go. It was something from my gut. I increasingly listen to my gut. Reliable, official."
The actor described his journey with the character as a “galactic trip” through a role full of contradictions, ranging from the darkest aspects to luminous love. He expressed gratitude and peace with the decision, stating that he had given his all and that now the healthiest thing is to look forward.
The second season of Berlin, set to premiere on Netflix on May 15, shifts its action from Paris to Spain, with Seville as its narrative and visual core. Filming also took place in Madrid, San Sebastián, and Peñíscola, but the Andalusian capital hosts the bulk of the plot, focusing on a major heist involving the theft of The Lady with an Ermine and a personal revenge plan.
This darker, more vengeful turn is a significant change from the first season, aiming for narrative consistency that brings the character closer to the Berlin known from Money Heist. The new installment retains the main cast and introduces new actors in key roles, including a Sevillian woman whose relationship with Berlin underpins the emotional plot, and a duke who serves as the main antagonist.
The possibility of a third season remains unclear, with some team members expressing uncertainty. However, the protagonist's departure appears to be definitive, marking a conclusion in the same city that served as the final setting for his character.
