The award, part of the ‘Andalucía en Flor’ program and promoted by the Multisectoral Association of Andalusian Gardening (AMJA), recognizes public entities that maintain a clear commitment to nature and the environment.
José Manuel Rodríguez, president of the ‘Andalucía en Flor’ jury, visited the town and highlighted the importance of these initiatives in rewarding the management of green spaces and the care of the urban environment.
The awards, of an honorary nature, assess aspects such as landscape heritage, excellence in gardening tasks, respect for the environment and sustainability, as well as the social and cultural use of public green areas.
Cartajima has been a pioneer in implementing measures to green the urban center, including the creation of garden areas, the installation of pergolas, vertical gardens, and the placement of hundreds of pots with native species.
More than 1,000 plants have been distributed, including holm oaks, olive trees, and strawberry trees, selected for their resistance and low maintenance. Rodríguez also positively valued the use of walls to create trompe-l'oeil vegetation, integrating art and nature.
The Cartajima City Council noted that these interventions help reduce urban temperatures, aligning with the National Green Infrastructure Strategy and the goals of the 2030 Agenda.
