Vícar commemorated the International Day of Older Persons (October 1st) with a community gathering held at Plaza Cervantes in Las Cabañuelas. Mayor Antonio Bonilla referred to this generation as 'heroic' and emphasized the importance of honoring them through recreational and educational activities.
The event, which began at 10:00 AM, included a welcome reception and a healthy breakfast. Subsequently, the Active Aging Workshops were presented, detailing classes in gerontogymnastics, zumba gold, memory, crafts, and sevillanas. Attendees also enjoyed animation and cognitive stimulation games, photo booth and natural soap workshops, a talk on healthy lifestyle habits by nurses from the Distrito Poniente Salud, and a Zumba master class. Live performances by the flamenco workshops and the Coro de Mayores de La Gangosa rounded out the program.
During the opening ceremony, Antonio Bonilla unveiled a new initiative from the town council: the Codylife Identification Bracelets. These bracelets, now available for collection and activation at the Vícar Senior Care Center (Centro Social de Las Cabañuelas), feature a QR code with personal information such as allergies or medical conditions, as well as a family member's phone number. The aim is to provide assistance in adverse situations like falls, accidents, or disorientation.
