Hikers from the 'Sport and Nature' program experienced a day of trekking and celebration last Sunday. The route, starting from Mecina Bombarón, followed a section of the GR-7 trail through the stunning landscapes of the Granada Alpujarra, passing through historic villages such as Bérchules, Alcútar, and Narila. The journey showcased characteristic Alpujarran architecture, cultivation terraces, and ravines, concluding in Cádiar.
In Cádiar, participants immersed themselves in the popular Fiesta del Vino (Wine Festival). The iconic Fuente del Vino (Wine Fountain) was the focal point of a festive day filled with music and hospitality, merging hiking, culture, and ancestral traditions. The linear route lasted four and a half hours, covering eleven kilometers with an elevation gain of 300 meters.
The next event in the program is scheduled for October 11th, featuring a circular route in Paterna del Río. Hikers will explore lush chestnut groves, ancient Andalusian-era irrigation channels, and the Paterna riverbed, enjoying panoramic views of Sierra Nevada. This five-and-a-half-hour route will cover twelve kilometers with an elevation gain of 600 meters, concluding with the Fiesta de la Castaña (Chestnut Festival).
Registration for each route costs €12 and can be completed at the Casa de la Juventud y el Deporte (House of Youth and Sport) in Vícar. The current edition of 'Sport and Nature' includes a total of twelve excursions until April, visiting destinations such as Baza, Cádiar, Benalúa de Guadix, Málaga, Alquife, Alboloduy, Almería, Lúcar, Laroya, Enix, and Santa Fe.
The complete program and conditions for each expedition are available on the official website of the Ayuntamiento de Vícar (Vícar City Council).
