The mayor of Vícar, Antonio Bonilla, has offered the facilities of the House of Youth and Sport as a provisional shelter for Civil Guard agents from the Roquetas de Mar barracks, should the latter have to close.

The mayor of Vícar, Antonio Bonilla, has offered the municipal facilities of the House of Youth and Sport to temporarily house Civil Guard agents from the Roquetas de Mar barracks, in the event that the latter has to close. The offer is made while the new Vícar barracks are being built, with completion scheduled for 2029.
Bonilla insisted that "we do not wish for any barracks to close," but in the face of this possibility, this provisional solution is offered to "house as many agents as necessary during the construction of the new Main Barracks of Vícar." This offer comes after three extraordinary sessions of the Municipal Plenary, where security in the municipality was discussed exclusively, reaffirming the mayor's personal commitment to improving citizen security.
Furthermore, the mayor will propose through the FAMP (Federation of Municipalities of Andalusia) an increase in the allocation of Autonomous Community Taxes so that municipalities can allocate funds to their needs, such as increasing the local police force.
The Plenary has also approved a commitment to increase the local police force by four officers annually, subject to economic possibilities, in addition to the seven new officers who will join by mid-next year. Concurrently, a request will be made to the National Government to increase the number of Civil Guard agents, not only for Vícar but for the entire Poniente region, justifying the demand by the need to reinforce the response to security problems.
Antonio Bonilla considers citizen security a political priority that requires concrete solutions, increased resources, and inter-administrative collaboration. In this regard, he will also convey to the European Union a request for more material and human resources to control the southern border, a key point in the fight against drug trafficking.
