The protest, organized by the 'Los Girasoles' Neighbors Association, began at 10:00 AM from Casablanca Street and proceeded through various streets of the municipality to the City Hall square. Demonstrators seek solutions to address the illegal street market and other activities deemed detrimental to the neighborhood.
In response, the Roquetas de Mar City Council has announced its request to the Central Government for authorization to hire 20 additional local police officers. Furthermore, they intend to establish a specialized unit within the Local Police to tackle such situations.
This request follows up on a previous appeal made in early September to the Government Sub-delegation to enhance the presence of the State Security Forces and Corps in the Las 200 Viviendas area. This collaboration with the Civil Guard has been requested since 2023 and has been discussed in multiple sessions of the Local Security Board.
Regarding the illegal market, the council estimates it can gather between 500 and 1,000 stalls. They emphasize that effective control requires joint action from the Local Police and the Civil Guard. The market was dismantled for 'three or four months' during periods of police presence but has since re-established.
In late 2025, the Civil Guard conducted over 450 operations in Las 200 Viviendas within a single month. These actions led to the recording of 50 crimes and more than 40 arrests. Notable operations included an anti-marijuana cultivation initiative, seizing over 350 plants, and neutralizing 130 illegal electricity connections. Agents also performed over 150 checks and identifications, processing around a hundred administrative infractions.
