A total of eight users from the Day Care Center of Las Cabañuelas participated last week in the first event of a program organized by the company Clece Mayores, which manages the service. The goal is to facilitate their access to the beach or pool during the summer to mitigate high temperatures.
The activity involves accessing the adapted bathing area for people with disabilities at the Aguadulce beach, which has facilities and the support of volunteers and center staff. Three professionals from the day care center assisted with transportation and support on the beach.
Unlike previous years, the seniors will have one weekly outing every Wednesday throughout the summer, alternating visits to the beach with trips to the swimming pool in the Villa de Vícar. The next visit is scheduled for tomorrow, July 8th, to the municipal pool with seven users and three professionals, concluding on July 15th with another visit to the adapted beach of Aguadulce with eight users and three professionals.
The mayor, Antonio Bonilla, highlighted the importance of sports and physical exercise for health, noting that sedentary lifestyles double the risk of cardiovascular disease, type II diabetes, and obesity, among other conditions. He emphasized that initiatives like this aim to improve the quality of life and happiness of citizens, especially seniors, alongside healthy eating.
These seaside visits are a continuation of other health and well-being activities for seniors promoted by the City Council. Last May, the month of health was celebrated with workshops, training talks, contests, games, entertainment, and World No Tobacco Day, all aimed at promoting healthy lifestyle habits among the population of Vícar.
