Unlike the total solar eclipse of August 12, 2026, which did not include Almería in its totality path, the phenomenon on August 2, 2027, will allow Almerians to enjoy this astronomical spectacle. According to the website www.trioeclipses.es from the Ministry of Science, Innovation and Universities of the Government of Spain, the totality path will cross a large part of the province, as well as other Andalusian provinces such as Cádiz, Granada, and Málaga.
The spectacle of the 2027 eclipse will be even greater, as it will begin around 10:30 AM, turning day into night for several minutes. The National Geographic Institute indicates that the peak of the solar obscuration will occur around 10:50 AM. A total of 10 Almería municipalities will be completely immersed in shadow.
The Almería municipalities that will experience the totality of the eclipse are: Adra, Almería, Balanegra, Berja, Dalías, El Ejido, La Mojonera, Níjar, Roquetas de Mar, and Vícar. These are part of the 115 Andalusian municipalities where the phenomenon can be enjoyed.
The totality path will run approximately horizontally across the south of the province, around 36.82° N, including numerous coastal towns even if the main nucleus of their municipality may appear partial. NASA's published geometry places the northern limit of the shadow at this latitude as it crosses Almería.
Regarding duration, Almerimar, in El Ejido, will be the place where the total eclipse lasts the longest, with a peak at 10:49:53 and a duration of 2 minutes and 23 seconds. Other municipalities such as Adra and Balanegra will also experience the phenomenon with significant durations, while La Mojonera, San José, Roquetas de Mar, El Ejido, Cabo de Gata, La Gangosa, Aguadulce, and Dalías will witness it at 100%. Locations like Retamar, Almería, and Costacabana will have 100% obscuration, and others like Berja, Félix, Enix, and Huércal de Almería will record very high obscuration percentages, close to 99.9%.
