The Provincial Council of Almería and the Adra City Council have initiated the construction of the future Local Police Headquarters in the La Azucarera Industrial Park. The President of the Provincial Institution, José Antonio García Alcaina, and the Mayor of Adra, Manuel Cortés, presided over the groundbreaking ceremony for this new infrastructure, which has a total investment of €1,700,000.
This project, funded through the Provincial Plans for Works and Services, is crucial for bringing police services closer to the most populated and expanding neighborhoods, such as Cuatro Higueras, Venta Nueva, La Curva, and Puente del Río. The President of the Provincial Council highlighted that the new headquarters will "chart the roadmap for Adra's security for the coming decades," emphasizing the importance of public infrastructure commensurate with the municipality's growth, which exceeds 26,000 residents.
García Alcaina underscored the continuous collaboration between both administrations, mentioning other ongoing projects such as the improvement of rural roads and highways, and the expansion of the Miramar Sports Complex. The Mayor, for his part, emphasized the City Council's commitment to providing the Local Police with the necessary resources, improving the working conditions of officers and modernizing the service in a "strategic enclave" to support Adra's development.
The new building, which will house the first exclusive headquarters for the Local Police in the municipality, will be built on a plot of over 540 sqm and will feature nearly 1,000 sqm spread over two levels. The ground floor will have public access, citizen service offices, and accessible restrooms, while the first floor will house exclusive areas for officers, such as changing rooms and offices.
The project also includes the redevelopment of an adjacent public square of almost 1,000 sqm, which will be transformed into a green hub with trees, benches, and bins. A new pedestrian axis under a pergola will be created, and a specific access for vehicles will be provided for emergency exits, facilitating a more agile and effective response throughout the municipality.
