With the arrival of warmer months, the search for the best beach bars to enjoy traditional espetos intensifies in Málaga. Among the multitude of beachfront options, one establishment stands out for preserving its seafaring character since its founding in 1965, earning it a Repsol Solete award.
The business, known as El Cabra Ovidio Playa, was managed for over five decades by its founder and his daughters. After the founder's retirement, the venue reopened, maintaining the same location and a similar menu, but incorporating contemporary elements that make it appealing to a diverse clientele.
Located in the fishing district of Pedregalejo, this beach bar is famous for its fried fish, sardine espetos, and a varied selection of fresh fish and seafood. Its culinary offerings range from sea bass and anchovies to seafood stews and rice dishes, as well as quality meats.
“"With the sea just a few meters away, the intense salty smell, and the feeling of living in another era, the tables at 'El Cabra' are a unique opportunity."
The Málaga Gastronomic Academy has praised the establishment, describing it as "pure renewed seafaring tradition." They highlight its ability to combine Málaga's culinary essence with modern touches, offering a welcoming atmosphere with a terrace and a renovated interior for over a hundred diners.
Experts from the gastronomic institution emphasize the freshness and excellent preparation of its fried dishes, as well as its boat-grilled espetos, considered a classic of Málaga summers. The restaurant, with bay views and close to the Baños del Carmen, is open from Monday to Sunday, from 12:00 to 23:00.
