The municipal company Promálaga has launched a preliminary market consultation to gauge the interest of construction companies in the future Auditorium of Music project. This process, which will run until July, aims to ensure that the formal bidding, scheduled within the next two months, results in the award to the best possible company to guarantee the success of this cultural facility.
The mayor of Málaga, Francisco de la Torre, has announced that the first stone of the auditorium is expected to be laid in October or November. The project, valued at 209 million euros, will be built on the San Andrés platform, on land owned by the Port of Málaga, and will feature over 30,000 m² with a capacity of nearly 2,000 seats. The estimated execution period is 48 months.
Project funding will be distributed among the Málaga City Council (20 million euros), the Junta de Andalucía (25 million euros), and the State (45 million euros). However, the Ministry of Culture has opted out of direct participation, prioritizing the completion of the Public State Library in the city.
The future auditorium will house the Main Auditorium, a Chamber Hall, rehearsal rooms, dressing rooms, and technical spaces, as well as service areas and underground parking. The design, by architects Federico Soriano and Agustín Benedicto, aims to be an architectural landmark. The stage machinery, lighting, and air conditioning represent a significant portion of the budget.
The management of the auditorium and its name will be decided when the construction reaches 50% completion, with the aim of these decisions progressing in parallel with the building work. The city council is also exploring potential sponsors for the project.
