The Sala 001 at La Malagueta cultural center, part of the Diputación de Málaga, is preparing to close its season with a series of encounters scheduled from June 22 to 25. The program aims to bring together various thematic lines that have defined the season, including critical thinking, literature, scientific dissemination, and contemporary art.
The first event, on Monday, June 22, will be a new session of the 'Vivir con Filosofía' (Living with Philosophy) cycle, coordinated by José Carlos Ruiz. It will feature philosopher and essayist Bernat Castany, who will deliver a talk titled 'Una filosofía de la risa' (A Philosophy of Laughter). The session will explore the philosophical and literary tradition of humor, analyzing its potential as a tool for knowledge and critical thinking.
On Tuesday, June 23, the 'Correspondencias' (Correspondences) cycle, coordinated by Alfredo Taján, will present the conference 'Memoria de una poeta suicida: el caso de Sylvia Plath' (Memory of a Suicidal Poet: The Case of Sylvia Plath). Poet Isabel Pérez Montalbán will guide attendees through the life and work of this influential 20th-century literary figure, delving into the personal experiences that shaped her writing.
The 'Málaga, ida y vuelta' (Málaga, Round Trip) cycle, coordinated by journalist Regina Sotorrío, will hold its final session on Wednesday, June 24. The guest speaker will be Málaga-born engineer Carlos García-Galán, deputy director of NASA's Gateway program and responsible for the development of the future lunar orbital station. The encounter will offer insights into his international career and the challenges of space exploration.
The program will conclude on Thursday, June 25, with the 'Who is Who? Who's Who in the Art World' cycle, coordinated by María Jesús Martínez Silvente. This session will feature Lola Durán, head of communication and artistic projects at Bodega ENATE, who will share her experience managing one of Spain's most significant corporate contemporary art collections, discussing the role of private collections and cultural mediation.
All events will take place at 7:00 PM in Sala 001 at La Malagueta. Admission is free until capacity is reached, and sessions will also be available live on the center's YouTube channel. The organizers highlighted that the season has been characterized by dialogue between disciplines and encounters with prominent voices in contemporary thought, creation, and dissemination.
