According to provisional data from the 2025 Death Statistics by Cause of Death, published by the National Statistics Institute (INE), 3,678 people died from tumors in the province last year. This figure places cancer ahead of the 3,561 deaths caused by circulatory system pathologies.
Analysis of the last decade reveals a divergent evolution: while deaths from oncological diseases have increased by 10%, deaths from cardiovascular conditions have fallen by 16%. Currently, cancer accounts for 26.5% of deaths in Malaga, compared to 25.6% for circulatory system ailments.
Within the tumor group, lung, tracheal, and bronchial cancers were the most lethal, with 825 cases, followed by colon, pancreatic, and breast cancers. Meanwhile, neurodegenerative diseases, such as Alzheimer's, also saw a significant rise, totaling 1,365 deaths within the group of age-related disorders.
