Málaga CF will receive €1.5 million from the City Council, representing a 50% increase compared to previous years. This contribution is in addition to the one million euros allocated to Unicaja. According to councilor Borja Vivas, the increase for the football club is due to its current situation in the First Division, aiming to equalize support for both of the city's flagship clubs.
The council will also address deficiencies at the La Rosaleda stadium, including waterproofing issues, leaks, and lighting problems. Although the stadium is well-maintained, it is considered necessary to refurbish it due to its age. These works will be carried out while a potential new construction is considered for the future.
Meetings between the club and institutions have already taken place to plan the works. Málaga CF will lead the process and set the deadlines, while the City Council will provide financial collaboration and assist with permits. The agreement stipulates that the stadium will remain a First Division venue until a new facility is ready.
Furthermore, the possibility of utilizing the stadium's facade for advertising campaigns and enhancing its visual appeal is being explored. The aim is to reach a consensus to avoid wasting public funds given the prospect of a future stadium change. These improvements are expected to be enjoyed for at least the next five to six years.
