This project represents a significant advancement in the fight against cancer in Andalucía. The contract, valued at 11.57 million euros (VAT included), has been awarded to the company BILBA Construcción e Infraestructuras, with an estimated completion period of 22 months.
The new center will enable the Andalusian public health system to incorporate one of the most advanced technologies for oncological treatment. Proton therapy uses protons to irradiate tumors with greater precision than conventional radiotherapy, thereby minimizing damage to healthy tissues and nearby organs.
The future facilities, spanning nearly 4,000 square meters, will cater to oncological patients who are candidates for this highly specialized treatment. Proton therapy is particularly indicated for certain pediatric tumors and for cases in complex locations, where minimizing side effects and sequelae is crucial.
The implementation of this technology in the Spanish public health system is supported by the Amancio Ortega Foundation, which has contributed 280 million euros. This funding is allocated to the acquisition of proton accelerators for various hospitals across the country, as well as to clinical training programs for specialists and the necessary technical support for the installation of this innovative technology.
