The council emphasizes the need to guarantee the safety of the infrastructure while preserving the reservoir and its valuable natural environment, declared the Fuente La Zarza Peri-urban Park. This area is a strategic ecological enclave, a wintering ground for cranes, and a habitat for various birds and mammals like the otter.
The City Council proposes not only the dam's safety but also the conservation of the ecosystem. Among the analyzed possibilities are carrying out adaptation works, improving safety conditions, implementing a maintenance program, and determining which administration should bear the costs. The search for European, regional, and state funds to restore the infrastructure without burdening municipal coffers is also being considered.
Given that the park's ownership belongs to the Junta de Andalucía, the Council highlights the importance of direct involvement from the regional administration. The Hinojosa del Duque City Council reiterates its willingness to collaborate with other institutions to find a viable solution.
The municipal institution will continue to firmly defend the interests of the municipality and the protection of its natural heritage, demanding that the competent administrations assume their responsibilities to conserve Fuente La Zarza as a reference natural space for the Valle de los Pedroches region.
