The Provincial Council of Córdoba, through its Culture Delegation and as part of its Singulares program, presents the XXIV Rural Film Showcase of Dos Torres and the 7th Instant Film Marathon. The event will take place from October 23rd to 25th at the Casa de la Cultura, under the theme ‘Women's Perspectives in Rural Cinema: Past and Present’.
This event, organized by the local City Council with the collaboration of the provincial institution and the Regional Government of Andalusia, aims to make Dos Torres a meeting point for audiovisual creation and reflection on rural life. The Provincial Council's Culture Delegate, Gabriel Duque, emphasized that the showcase is pioneering and receives institutional support for participants to present their work, even at the Filmoteca de Andalucía.
The initiative, which also involves the University of Córdoba, seeks to bring cinema closer to municipalities, foster debate between creators and the public, and use audiovisuals to showcase the reality, heritage, and identity of rural areas, according to the head of the Department.
The mayor of Dos Torres, Manuel Torres, highlighted the showcase's significance, mentioning the screening of a 1971 documentary from Radio Televisión Española that demonstrates the town's connection to cinema, including scenes and locations filmed there.
The program, detailed by the Dos Torres City Council's Culture Technician, Miguel Coleto, includes the screening of the short film ‘¿Qué comen los dragones?’ by Álvaro León, followed by a Q&A session with the director and lead actress, Cristina Mediero, moderated by film journalist Manuel Bellido, to highlight professional opportunities in filmmaking.
The day will also feature the screening of ‘Manuela’, by Gonzalo García Pelayo, coinciding with the 50th anniversary of this precursor work of Andalusian Cinema. The film, with a soundtrack featuring songs that originated Andalusian rock, adapts Manuel Halcón's famous novel, starring Charo López and Máximo Valverde, who will attend the tribute to this rural drama filmed in Lebrija.
On Saturday, at 9:00 AM, the 7th Instant Film Marathon of Dos Torres will begin with an informational session and the start of filming. At 6:30 PM, a highlight will be the tribute to Cordoban filmmaker Josefina Molina, Goya de Honor 2012. The 1971 documentary ‘El retablo del Valle de Los Pedroches’ by RTVE, exploring the rural heritage and culture of the region, with a focus on Dos Torres, will be screened, accompanied by a Q&A with journalist Marta Jiménez.
Female presence will continue with the screening of ‘Lo que queda de ti’, by Gala Gracia, as part of the IX National Cycle of Cinema and Rural Women, followed by a film forum and a roundtable discussion on women in rural areas.
During the presentation, attended by the Culture Delegate of the Regional Government of Andalusia in Córdoba, Eduardo Lucena, the 7th Instant Film Marathon was also introduced. This marathon challenges participants to create their own short films during the event. The final gala will feature the screening of the submitted works and the jury's deliberation, according to Daniel Siles from Actúa estudios.
The closing ceremony will also include a musical performance by JULIA & Cuarteto (comprising Bernardo Benítez, Manu Torres, Javier Rabadán, and Julia García), followed by the announcement of the jury's verdict and the awards ceremony.
