The IMO Racing team, from the Montes Orientales Institute in Iznalloz, will compete in the premier global event of this educational competition, STEM Racing 2026, to be held in Singapore from October 3rd to 8th. This Granadan center, with nearly 5,200 inhabitants, qualified alongside the Rodríguez Delgado Institute from Ronda (Málaga), securing second and third place respectively in the national phase.
STEM Racing is a prestigious educational initiative challenging students to design, build, and race compressed-air-powered scale vehicles, replicating the operations of a professional Formula 1 team. Participants develop skills in engineering, computer-aided design, project management, and communication.
The IES Montes Orientales, celebrating its 50th anniversary this year, has shared its IMO Racing team's journey on social media. Following their qualification for the international phase at the national final held in Madrid, the institute expressed gratitude for the support from colleagues, friends, and family.
Iznalloz, a municipality with a low average annual income per inhabitant in Andalusia, sees its institute as a hub of activity. The center, also involved in Erasmus+ exchange programs and projects on Democratic Memory, promotes initiatives like the IMO Racing team. Students from surrounding towns such as Benalúa de las Villas, Píñar, Montillana, or Montejícar participate in this competition, aiming to cover 20 meters in the shortest possible time with a scale Formula 1 car.
The IMO Racing team competes in the 'professional' category, supported by sponsorships from local town councils and businesses that have helped these young students secure their ticket to the Singapore final.
