Mojácar is preparing for its emblematic Moors and Christians Festival, taking place from June 11th to 14th, attracting thousands of visitors with a program recreating the town's medieval past.

The town of Mojácar is dressing up to host a new edition of its Moors and Christians Festival, one of the most representative celebrations in the province of Almería. From Thursday, June 11th, to Sunday, June 14th, the municipality will transform into a historical stage reliving its medieval past.
The festival, which attracts thousands of visitors, introduces new features such as the I Conference on History and Archaeology and the City Day, initiatives promoted by the City Council to enhance local heritage. The mayor, Francisco García Cerdá, has invited participation in this festivity that "forms part of our essence".
The program kicked off on Thursday with activities for children, including a parade by students from CEIP Bartolomé Flores and a school proclamation. In the evening, the comparsas officially began the festivities with a procession through the historic center.
Friday will be marked by symbolic acts such as the traditional "trabucadas" (musket firings), the inauguration of the Medieval Market, and the reenactment of the city key handover. The day will conclude with the festival's opening speech by the Moorish embassy Moros Viejos and the Christian embassy Templarios.
On Saturday, the focus will shift to Mojácar Playa, featuring musket firings, a horse parade, a dressage exhibition, and a medieval tournament. The day will end with an informal parade along the promenade.
Sunday will provide the grand finale with a musket firing at Las Ventanicas beach and the highly anticipated Grand Parade of Moors and Christians. Hundreds of participants will showcase elaborate gala costumes and historical weaponry, accompanied by music bands, in a route ending at the La Fuente roundabout.
The Medieval Market, located in Plaza Nueva and Glorieta street, will offer crafts, gastronomy, and performances. Concurrently, the VI National Photography Contest of the festival is being held.
The City Council will reinforce the urban bus service during the festival to facilitate access, extending operating hours into the early mornings of Friday and Saturday.
