The Garrucha Town Hall has unveiled an ambitious comprehensive project to improve its coastline, backed by an investment of half a million euros, with the goal of positioning it as "the best beach on the Levante coast" by 2027. This initiative seeks to offer more services, comfort, and safety to residents and visitors.
The investment comes after the Ministry of Ecological Transition refused to replenish the beaches' sand. Mayor Álvaro Ramos explained that, in light of this situation, the local government has secured a subsidy of 500,000 euros to comprehensively improve Garrucha's beaches.
The planned actions, announced by the Councillor for Tourism, Pablo Fernández, focus on enhancing accessibility, particularly for people with reduced mobility. 950 meters of articulated concrete boardwalks will be installed leading directly to the shore, facilitating access for those with baby strollers or wheelchairs. Additionally, an accessible beach point will be established with a dedicated module for adapted toilets and changing rooms, along with ample shaded areas.
Regarding sustainability, cleanliness, and safety, these aspects will be maximally reinforced. Two electric vehicles will be added: an all-terrain vehicle for surveillance and a high-pressure cleaning truck that reduces water consumption by 60% compared to traditional methods. Advanced lifeguard towers with solar panels for self-sufficiency, new buoys to ensure bather safety, and 13 ecological islands for waste management will also be introduced. Showers and foot washes will be replaced with more efficient models.
The project also includes the renovation of goalposts and the installation of new volleyball and tennis nets. Lastly, a large covered structure will be built to house the new beach library. Through these improvements, Garrucha aims to transform the tourist experience by 2027.
