The exhibition features a selection of the artist's recent production, belonging to the pictorial series Las Piedras y las Flores (The Stones and the Flowers) (2024-2026). This series departs from figurative painting, touching upon themes such as power relations, contradiction, and companionship, with echoes of archetypal pairs like Don Quixote and Sancho or Faust and Mephistopheles.
The artistic practice of Carlos Cañadas (Granada, 1998) revolves around the figure of the psychopomp—an entity that guides, mediates, or accompanies between two states—as a means to contemplate contemporary conditions of coexistence. His compositions are structured around tense dualities, featuring figures that accompany and confront each other, bearers of asymmetric, secret knowledge.
From this relationship emerge processes of doubling, where each character operates as the reverse of the other, sustaining a dynamic between the playful and the violent. This logic underpins Las Piedras y las Flores, a pictorial series from which 'El que la lleva' presents an excerpt.
Cañadas has held solo exhibitions at institutions such as the Palace of La Madraza and the Palace of the Counts of Gabia (both in Granada), and Galería Plomo (Mexico City). He has also participated in group shows at the Andalusian Center of Contemporary Art (Seville) and the 40th BMW Painting Award (Madrid).
The artist has participated in artistic residencies in Barcelona, Mexico City, and Cantabria, and has collaborated with galleries such as Fran Reus (Palma de Mallorca), El Chico (Madrid), or Mecha (Santander).
Currently, Cañadas balances his plastic production with ongoing doctoral research at the University of Granada, exploring the link between poetic and magical thought and artistic creation. He was selected by Renace at FACBA 2025, a Contemporary Art Festival promoted by the Faculty of Fine Arts of Granada, with which the gallery has collaborated for the past two academic years.
The exhibition also features a curatorial text by artist José Casas.
