The council of Vélez-Málaga has benefited from one million euros from the Provincial Council of Málaga. This financial injection is part of the third phase of the Municipal Economic Assistance Plan (PAEM), a provincial program designed to provide direct funding to city councils. The aim is for municipalities to strengthen their day-to-day operations and carry out maintenance, improvement, and investment projects.
This funding model is characterized by its flexibility, adapting to the needs of municipalities throughout the year. The approval of this new phase of the program took place at the Provincial Council's plenary session last Wednesday, thus ensuring the continuity of public service provision and local investment capacity.
The mayor of Vélez-Málaga, Jesús Lupiáñez, emphasized that this additional contribution "allows us to continue improving the city's maintenance and addressing the needs of residents," highlighting its direct impact on daily municipal operations. He also valued the constant support from the Provincial Council of Málaga, noting that this investment is in addition to other actions already financed by the provincial institution within the municipality.
Among the mentioned actions are the improvement of the pedestrian connection between Benajarafe and Chilches, and the adaptation of spaces in the Mercovélez building for musical bands. The mayor framed these actions within a broader planning strategy, combining provincial, regional, and European funding to modernize infrastructure and equipment, describing it as a "roadmap" for the municipality's transformation.
Finally, Lupiáñez stated that this contribution, along with the budgetary planning for 2026, significantly reinforces the municipality's investment and operational capacity.
