A British national, believed to be around 50 years old, has been miraculously saved after suffering a cardiac arrest while walking with his family along the seafront path connecting Burriana and Carabeillo beaches in Nerja. The incident occurred on Sunday, June 7, around midday.
The swift action of several passers-by, including an off-duty firefighter who happened to be in the area, was crucial. They initiated cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) attempts immediately after the man suddenly collapsed. Meanwhile, emergency services were alerted.
The beach lifeguard unit from the Nerja Council deployed two personnel from Burriana beach, carrying a semi-automatic defibrillator. Officers from the Policía Local and an ambulance from the town's health centre also raced to the scene.
After several minutes of intensive efforts, including the administration of shocks from the defibrillator, the individuals involved managed to restore the tourist's pulse. He was subsequently taken to a hospital for specialized medical treatment.
This event highlights the importance of rapid citizen response and the availability of resuscitation equipment in busy areas. It marks the third successful resuscitation in the Axarquia region in recent weeks, following similar incidents in Vélez-Málaga and Caleta de Vélez.
