The Mancomunidad de Municipios de la Costa del Sol Axarquía has officially launched the Axarquía Hybrid League, a new sporting event set to unfold during the final four months of the year. The initiative aims to unite various municipalities within the region through sports and foster community spirit among their residents.
The President of the Mancomunidad, Jorge Martín, emphasized the event's significance for the region, thanking Ged Sports for choosing Axarquía for its launch. Martín highlighted that such competitions not only promote municipal unity but also boost sports tourism, attracting athletes and fans to enjoy an outdoor format in natural settings.
Guillermo Pedrajo, manager of Ged Sports, explained that the Hyrcross Game is a discipline designed for individuals over 18 years old and adaptable to all fitness levels. This sport, increasingly popular in Spain, combines endurance and physical training. The concept stems from the fusion of HY (hybrid), R (running), Cross (cross training), and Games, aiming to test the hybrid athlete's capabilities through strength, endurance, and strategy.
The competition involves a continuous 6-kilometer run interspersed with six specific functional exercises: rowing, sandbag lunges, ski, farmer carry, burpee broadjump, and wall balls. The events will be held in Algarrobo (September 5), Vélez-Málaga (October 10), Nerja (November 14), and Benamocarra (December 12).
To qualify for the league, participants must have completed at least three of the four events, although individuals can participate in a single day without entering the overall standings. Categories include individual (male and female), pairs (including mixed), and relay teams (four people). Prizes will amount to 500 euros per category.
Ged Sports, which currently promotes the Hycross Game in Cantabria, León, and Madrid, anticipates over 2,000 participants in Axarquía. Registration will open on July 1st via the website www.gedsports.com. The event is supported by the Asociación Impulsa Axarquía.
