Eleven neighborhood associations in Jaén have joined forces to demand a comprehensive renovation of the Circunvalación road from the Junta de Andalucía, a key route showing severe deterioration, exacerbated by recent rains.
The Circunvalación road in Jaén has once again become the focus of citizen demands. What was once a recurring request from residents in the neighborhoods near the Santa Catalina Castle has now transformed into an unprecedented joint claim.
A total of eleven neighborhood associations in the capital have decided to unite their voices to ask the Junta de Andalucía for a complete intervention on this road, which they consider increasingly deteriorated and dangerous, especially after winter.
The written request, addressed to the territorial delegate for Public Works, Territorial Planning, and Housing of the Junta de Andalucía in Jaén, highlights the importance of this road, heavily used by residents of the southern area and as a connection between La Granja and the Seminario. Beyond visible damage, the associations denounce a growing sense of abandonment that, they assure, affects the daily lives of hundreds of people.
“
"The problems the road already had have been greatly accentuated after the rains. Cracks, potholes, and sidewalk deterioration were already there, but this winter the situation has practically escalated."
The petition is not limited solely to the asphalt. Residents demand a “comprehensive” action that resolves problems accumulated over years, such as gutters filled with dirt, clogged drains, deteriorated sidewalks, and signs or lampposts that invade pedestrian space. This image, they claim, is repeated along much of the route.
“
"What we are asking for is a complete repair, not small patches. Some deeper potholes have been covered in recent months, but little else. The problem is still there."
The shared perception among the associations is that punctual actions are no longer sufficient. Therefore, in the document registered with the Junta, they explicitly request that repairs not be carried out in sections, but rather a comprehensive intervention on the entire road. They state that, after the storms, the deterioration is widespread across almost the entire road.
The neighborhood mobilization brings together associations such as Puerta de Martos, La Magdalena, La Merced, La Gloria, Entre Cantones, El Ariete, El Olmo, Vistas al Castillo, Torre del Concejo, San Vicente de Paul, and El Tomillo. All share concern about the impact of the road's poor condition on both road safety and daily mobility.
Although one of the associations had previously communicated the situation to the territorial delegate for Public Works, the progressive deterioration of the road prompted the decision to submit a joint claim. The Junta has indicated that they will try to address the request once the document is formalized.
For now, the associations are not setting deadlines or planning further mobilizations, but they do expect a response “as soon as possible”.
