The province of Jaén celebrates the 2026 edition of 'Nights of Light in Jaén's Castles', an initiative that transforms nine historic fortresses with thousands of candles and live music, from August 8 to September 13.

The event, aiming to offer a unique experience, illuminates emblematic monuments with thousands of candles. The tour is accompanied by live music from the duo Sótano 14, blending genres like classical music, jazz, and flamenco. In addition to free strolls, guided tours are offered for free with prior registration.
The first stop will be on Saturday, August 8, in Arjona, where the cistern of the old citadel remains within the church of Santa María, a vestige of its Islamic origins and strategic importance. This will be followed by the Castle of Villardompardo on Thursday, August 13, a 13th-century fortress declared a Site of Cultural Interest, which has served as a noble residence and undergone modifications over the centuries.
The Tower of Boabdil in Porcuna, standing 28 meters high and built by the Order of Calatrava between 1411 and 1435, will be open for visits on Friday, August 14. It is said to be named after the imprisonment of Boabdil, the last Nasrid king of Granada. On Friday, August 21, the Castle of Arjonilla, rebuilt by the Order of Calatrava in the 15th century and linked to the legend of Macías el Enamorado, will be another highlight.
The Wall of Andújar will be filled with candles and music on Sunday, August 23, showcasing sections of the ancient medieval defensive enclosure that protected the city. Subsequently, on Friday, August 28, the Castle of la Yedra in Cazorla will offer spectacular views and house the Museum of Popular Arts and Customs of the Upper Guadalquivir, also being linked to the legend of La Tragantía.
On Friday, September 4, the Castle of Vilches, a key fortress on the medieval border line, will display its remains of walls and towers. The route continues on Saturday, September 12, in Martos, with the Castle of la Peña, one of the highest fortified points in the province and an essential piece of the Order of Calatrava.
The summer tourist program will conclude on Sunday, September 13, in La Guardia de Jaén, featuring its keep and remains of the fortified enclosure built upon an ancient Islamic fortress, which allowed surveillance of the eastern access to the city of Jaén.
