Jaén Adds Over a Thousand Parking Spaces with New Projects

The City Council details the location and number of public parking facilities, including free and rental options, to improve urban mobility.

The Jaén City Council is promoting a plan to add 1,084 parking spaces in the capital, aiming to meet citizen demand and improve urban mobility.

The Jaén council has detailed the locations and number of parking facilities to be added to the city's vehicle park. In total, 924 spaces will be created in the urban center and an additional 160 with the Los Cañones project, bringing the total to 1,084 spaces. The mayor, Julio Millán, along with the Councilor for Economy, Francisco Lechuga, explained that these spaces will offer both rotation and rental options, with prices ranging between 30 and 80 euros in high-demand areas.
The plan also includes the provision of free public parking. Spaces have already been developed in the San Felipe neighborhood and 140 spaces have been added in Belén y San Roque, near Misericordia street. Parking spaces in El Valle remain free. Soon, a new parking facility on Orcera street, which is nearly complete, will be put into service, serving the neighborhoods of Peñamefécit and its surroundings.
Regarding monitored and attended parking spaces, 26 have been enabled at the Ruiz Jiménez school, and 62 in the Los Olivares industrial estate. In one month, 50 new spaces will be added to the Goya parking lot, which already has 200, bringing the total to 250. A parking area will also be developed next to the Local Police Headquarters, with 134 spaces, expected to be available in approximately one month.
The Epassa Board of Directors will soon award the construction contracts for the parking facilities in Santa Isabel (former Muñoz Garnica school) and La Glorieta (next to San Pedro Pascual church), which will add 90 spaces. The most ambitious project will be the parking facility at La Alameda Park, located beneath the health center, which will provide 461 spaces, about a hundred for rotation and around 360 for rental. Construction is expected to begin between September and October.
Furthermore, two offers have been received for an underground parking facility in the vicinity of the Bus Station, linked to the Rey Fernando Hotel project. Progress is also being made with the Ministry of Finance regarding the transfer of land to develop parking spaces and a sports court next to the police station.
Regarding the expansion of the blue zone (paid parking), the municipal government defends the measure as a way to improve mobility and prevent the abusive use of public space. Residents will benefit from special conditions (90 euros annually), and new parking meters allowing card payments and remote ticket renewal will be installed. The mayor compared Jaén's situation with other cities, noting that the capital has a relatively low number of regulated parking spaces.
