The exhibition, located on Bernabé Soriano street, aims to make visible the often-underestimated importance of engineering in social and economic progress. This initiative, promoted by the College of Civil Engineers (CICCP), commemorates half a century of its demarcation in Andalusia, Ceuta, and Melilla.
“"These infrastructures are essential in people's lives, although their importance often goes unnoticed while they function normally."
The exhibition, which has already visited Málaga, gains special relevance after recent torrential rain episodes that tested the resilience of dams, roads, and communication networks. According to the dean, these situations underscore the need to invest in maintenance and reinforce key infrastructures to ensure safety and economic development.
Among the highlighted works in the province of Jaén, the exhibition features the Despeñaperros tunnels, the Autovía del Olivar (still under construction), the Quiebrajano reservoir, and the Huesa supply gallery. Additionally, the rehabilitation of the Molinos complex and the Casas Nuevas hydroelectric plant in Marmolejo, classified as heritage and currently abandoned, has been requested.
The exhibition, comprising 15 prisms and 45 panels, reviews the main infrastructures executed over the last five decades in the region, including milestones such as the A-92 or the 1812 Constitution bridge. The College of Civil Engineers' objective is to bring to the public a fundamental work for progress, which leaves a lasting mark on society by connecting territories and improving quality of life.
