Residents of Jaén have responded powerfully to the humanitarian emergency in Venezuela, raising over 190,000 euros to date. The exact amount accounted for stands at 190,894 euros, highlighting the province's solidarity with the complex situation in the Caribbean nation.
Cáritas Venezuela's network activated its emergency teams following earthquakes on June 24th, which caused severe damage to homes and infrastructure. The organization has been working to assist affected families and assess the most urgent needs on the ground.
Cáritas Española, with immediate support from Cáritas Diocesana de Jaén, launched an emergency campaign to channel donations. Donation channels, including the website www.caritasjaen.es, bank accounts, and the Bizum code 00242 with the concept “Cáritas con Venezuela”, remain open. Collections from July 4th and 5th in Jaén's churches were also dedicated to this cause.
The humanitarian response is coordinated through Cáritas's extensive network in Venezuela, comprising 37 diocesan Cáritas branches and over 600 parish Cáritas groups. As of July 16th, 19,058 tons of humanitarian aid had been received, with 15,963 tons already distributed. This includes 10,820 food kits and 6,988 hygiene kits for 17,808 families, along with 96,156 units of medicines and medical supplies.
Cáritas's intervention provides food, safe drinking water, hygiene products, medicines, and temporary shelter, alongside support for affected individuals, particularly the most vulnerable. The organization also focuses on community recovery and strengthening basic services to help families rebuild their lives with safety and dignity.
Cáritas emphasizes that financial donations are the most effective way to contribute, enabling a rapid response tailored to real-time needs and facilitating the purchase of goods and services within the affected region, thereby supporting the local economy.
