The owners of the plot, located next to Plaza de la Soledad, have carried out cleaning, consolidation, and analysis of the archaeological remains, as well as their protection and subsequent covering, in response to a requirement from the Territorial Delegation of Culture. This action follows the initiation of sanctioning proceedings due to previous lack of conservation measures.
The findings, discovered in 2008, include walls of a Roman-era domestic building, which provide insight into the urban fabric of that period, as well as vestiges from Andalusian Huelva. The urbanization of the area was halted at the time due to these discoveries.
“"As on other occasions, it will depend on the value that developers wish to give them, with the main priority being the protection of the archaeological remains."
In Execution Unit number 13, the construction of multi-family housing is planned on an area of 1,025 square meters. The detailed study for the planning of the plots in Plaza de la Soledad and Almirante Garrocho street was initially approved on April 20, thus resuming a project that had been stalled for eighteen years.
This study aims to modify the alignments and volumes to allow for an intermediate parking floor, due to the impossibility of constructing basements because of the archaeological remains. This solution will free up the ground floor for commercial premises, maintaining the planned tertiary use and avoiding underground excavation.
