The historic supermarket chain Supermercados Dani, known for being Spain's cheapest for many years, will change hands. The family business from Huelva, Supermercados El Jamón, has formalized the acquisition of the Granada-based brand, a strategic operation that reinforces its position in the Andalusian food distribution sector.
With this purchase, El Jamón will incorporate Dani's 19 establishments—14 in the province of Granada, one in Almería, two in Jaén, and two in Málaga—adding 28,300 square meters of commercial space. The Huelva company will also absorb Dani's 570 employees, with no layoffs planned.
The integration process will begin in October, when the supermarkets will progressively transition to operating under the Supermercados El Jamón brand. This acquisition positions the Huelva company as the third largest in Andalusia by commercial surface area, consolidating a growth model based on proximity and local employment.
The operation unites two Andalusian family businesses with similar values, emphasizing customer proximity, territorial roots, and a commitment to local suppliers. This preserves the Andalusian character of both companies and ensures the continuity of Supermercados Dani's legacy.
Daniel Lozano, owner of Supermercados Dani, expressed his excitement for the project's continuation under another Andalusian family business, calling it good news for employees, suppliers, and customers. Meanwhile, Mabel Díaz, general director of Supermercados El Jamón, noted that the operation consolidates their position in Granada and Andalusia, and was based on cordial and fluid negotiations.
The acquisition of Dani represents a significant step in the territorial expansion of Supermercados El Jamón, completing its presence in all eight Andalusian provinces with the incorporation of the Adra (Almería) establishment. This enhances its capacity in a competitive market and strengthens its position as a regional operator.
