The Asociación Colina has organized a new cleanup day along the Genil riverbed as it flows through Granada. Nine volunteers successfully removed a total of 136 kilograms of waste, including wet wipes, plastics, and various types of belongings.
This activity has highlighted the issue of waste in riverbeds and natural spaces, as well as its consequences for the environment and river ecosystems, according to the organization. Wet wipes were among the most numerous items found, and the initiative reminds the public that they should not be flushed down the toilet or end up in the natural environment.
The event was attended by Quique Bolsitas, known for his environmental cleanup and awareness actions across Spain, accompanied by Inma and Macarena. Volunteers from Granada and Churriana de la Vega also collaborated.
The initiative aims to raise awareness about individual responsibility and the need to prevent waste from entering rivers. It is emphasized that discarding waste into toilets or the environment does not make it disappear; instead, it can accumulate in riverbeds, requiring subsequent cleanup efforts.
FCC Servicios Ambientales was responsible for the removal and management of the collected waste. The day not only removed 136 kilos of trash but also conveyed the message that the conservation of the Genil, part of Granada's natural heritage, cannot solely depend on volunteer efforts, and prevention is key.
