After 13 seasons defending the colors of Granada CF women, forward Laura Requena, known as Lauri, has announced her decision to leave the club. In an emotional press conference held at the Nuevo Los Cármenes stadium, the player expressed her gratitude and described her time at the club as "the most beautiful professional love affair" of her life, while also stating the need to "experience new things" and for "a change".
Lauri, who turned 36 on Monday, justified her departure from the sixth-placed team in the Liga F by arguing that "in life, there are stages and end of cycles". "I am closing a chapter not because I am unhappy, but because I need to make decisions based on self-love and I want to experience new things. I am at a point in my life where I need a change," she explained, adding that the decision was made very recently and that, despite the "unconditional love for the club", she needs to "take charge of my life".
Although she did not reveal her next destination, the forward expressed her "conviction" that her path and that of Granada "will cross again in the future". Lauri stated her desire to "continue being part of women's football in one way or another" and sees herself "in many places in the future". She recalled her arrival in Granada thirteen years ago, feeling at home from the start and highlighting her "responsibility" to contribute to the club being among the best teams in the country.
The player, who had the "enormous privilege" of being captain, expressed pride in being a "reference for so many boys and girls in the city" and accepts "with respect, affection, and empathy" being considered a legend of granadinismo. She highlighted the role of her teammates, whom she defined as her "engine, my inspiration, and my family", and remembered "people who have eaten a lot of shit and women who have fought like bitches for Granada women's team to be at the top now".
Lauri concluded by asking to be remembered for the person she tries to be, leading with the values she learned. "Football passes, what remains is the person," she declared. She wished that "everyone has the feeling of belonging and love for colors that take my heart away", reaffirming her "unconditional love" for granadinismo.
