The Board of Trustees of the Alhambra and Generalife has organized a moving event at the casitas of the Partal Palace to pay tribute to the Ateneo de Granada on the occasion of its first centenary of cultural life.
During the ceremony, Rodrigo Ruiz-Jiménez Carrera, director of the Board, presented a commemorative plaque to Rosa González de Patto, president of the Ateneo, in recognition of the institution's distinguished hundred-year trajectory.
Carrera highlighted the Ateneo's importance, stating that it is not only a major cultural programmer but also "living oral memory of the city" and a perpetuator of "the good things that culture has." He added that the Ateneo has the mission to "guard the Alhambra," calling its members "guardians and custodians" of the monument.
The figure of Leopoldo Torres Balbás was recalled, who was a member of the Ateneo and played a crucial role in the restoration of the Partal Palace, a space that in his time was in a "very deteriorated" state.
The president of the Ateneo, Rosa González de Patto, expressed her pride and the stimulus derived from receiving this recognition from an institution so closely linked to the history and cultural identity of Granada, reaffirming the entity's commitment to culture and thought.
The tribute concluded with a poetry reading by renowned literary figures associated with the Ateneo, including Ángeles Mora, winner of the National Critics' Award and the National Poetry Award, as well as Carla Friebe and Álvaro Salvador Jofre, both members of the Academy of Fine Arts.
