The Minister of Health, Antonio Sanz, visited the works of this center, described as pioneering in the treatment of mental health pathologies. Sanz highlighted that Andalusia is a national benchmark in this area, thanks to the transformation driven by the Regional Government since 2019.
The center will house the 120 patients from the Mental Health Rehabilitation Unit in Huétor Vega (Granada), with the capacity to accommodate up to 200 patients. Additionally, the Intensive Community Treatment teams from the Clínico San Cecilio and Virgen de las Nieves hospitals will also carry out their work there from the end of the year. Spanning over 2,400 square meters, a future High Dependency Rehabilitation Unit is planned.
This new unit is designed to care for individuals with complex severe mental disorders, a "sensitive deficit" that the administration aims to address. The building will also facilitate the development of new community, rehabilitative, and socio-health devices, allowing for differentiated circuits for child and adolescent care.
The third phase, following its launch in October, will include a High Dependency Rehabilitation Unit for complex cases, characterized by high disability and treatment-resistant symptoms. Minister Sanz emphasized that the center represents a "profound transformation" due to its global approach.
Andalusia is consolidating its position as a national leader in mental health, with 75 new projects and the addition of 370 professionals since 2019, bringing the total to 3,250 specialists across 153 facilities.
