The Granada City Council will finally be able to execute 5,219,997 euros in investments planned for the 2026 Municipal Budget. The execution of these actions is conditional upon the approval of the Regional Government of Andalusia and compliance with the municipality's economic and financial adjustment plan.
The spokesperson for the governing team, Jorge Saavedra, announced these investments, which "will allow the unlocking of a significant economic package aimed at urban improvement, infrastructure renewal, technological modernization, and the conservation of public facilities." The benefiting areas include Culture, Presidency and Institutional Relations; Citizen Participation and Maintenance; Sports; and Human Resources, Organization, Smart City, Digitalization, and Innovation.
Saavedra highlighted that compliance with the economic commitments "now allows us to activate much-anticipated strategic investments in neighborhoods, public spaces, sports facilities, culture, accessibility, and administrative modernization."
The largest allocation, three million euros, will go to Citizen Participation and Maintenance. This includes 1.5 million euros to improve the pavement of approximately 50,000 square meters of roads across all districts, as well as the installation of speed bumps. The Plan for Beautifying Squares and Gardens will receive an additional 200,000 euros, and 700,000 euros will be allocated to the improvement of gardens and green spaces, with a specific 100,000 euros for playgrounds. Investments will also be made in municipal buildings and schools (160,000 euros), technical facilities (170,000 euros), and energy saving (50,000 euros).
Urban accessibility improvements will receive 120,000 euros for road and curb adjustments. The Culture, Presidency, and Institutional Relations area will receive over 1.4 million euros for repairs to cultural heritage, furniture for municipal libraries, and investments in the Municipal Band and other cultural entities. Over 1.3 million euros will be dedicated to the Municipal Archive for infrastructure and equipment, coinciding with the relocation of the Palacio de los Córdova.
In Sports, 475,000 euros will be mobilized, including 375,000 euros for the improvement of sports facilities, such as replacing artificial turf in several sports centers. The dehumidifier at the Núñez Blanca sports complex pool will be renovated (50,000 euros), and changing rooms at the Parque Nueva Granada and Casería de Montijo sports centers will be reformed (50,000 euros).
Finally, over 336,000 euros will be allocated to Human Resources, Organization, Smart City, Digitalization, and Innovation for the acquisition of new computer equipment and administrative furniture.
Saavedra stated that the objective is "for the City Council's economic recovery to translate directly into useful and transformative investments for the city," aiming to "modernize municipal services, improve public spaces, and continue advancing towards a more competitive Granada."
