The Regional Ministry of Public Works and Mobility, through the Public Works Agency, has promoted the replacement of traditional lighting with new LED luminaires throughout the Granada Metro infrastructure. This initiative aims to optimize energy consumption and reduce operating costs.
The total investment for this improvement has been 91,285 euros, with an estimated payback period of approximately one and a half years. In addition to economic savings, the new LED lamps offer greater luminosity and facilitate maintenance tasks.
The installation of LED strips and projectors has been carried out in the underground stations of Camino de Ronda, where the perceived insufficient lighting has been improved, and in the Workshops and Garages area. In the latter, besides energy savings, working conditions for the Granada Metro staff have been optimized.
In the stations of Méndez Núñez, Recogidas, and Alcázar Genil, the sides and ceilings of the lobbies have been renovated with double LED strips, providing a more modern and contemporary look. At Alcázar Genil, the intervention has been more comprehensive, including improved lighting on the platforms and the replacement of fluorescent tubes in the Archaeological Albercón, a cultural visit space within the Metro station.
The access ramps to the Camino de Ronda tunnel have seen their halogen projectors replaced by LED units with astronomical clocks, which only activate during daylight hours, thus eliminating 3,000 hours of annual operation.
In the Workshops and Garages area, the perimeter exterior lighting has been increased to enhance circulation safety. LED projectors have also been installed to illuminate the maintenance workbenches for rolling stock, covering an area that previously lacked artificial lighting. LED technology has also replaced fluorescent lighting in pits, walkways, the service station, the track area, and the warehouse, as well as in the lighting of the workers' parking lots.
Finally, in the underpass of Cerrillo Maracena, all fluorescent tubes have been replaced with LED strips in lighting and information panels, stairs, landings, and corridors.
