HLA Universitario Inmaculada in Granada has performed its first two urological interventions with the Da Vinci robot, positioning itself as a pioneer in robotic surgery in Andalusia.

The HLA Universitario Inmaculada, a private hospital in Granada, has marked a milestone by completing its first two urological interventions using the Da Vinci robot. This technology, which facilitates access to robotic surgery in the province, was carried out by the hospital's Urology Unit.
Urology specialists, Doctors Ignacio Puche, Francisco Javier Vicente, and Cristian Puerto, successfully performed these initial operations. Dr. Puche highlighted that the technology enables complex procedures with high-definition 3D vision, greater precision, fine movements, and less tissue aggression, leading to faster recoveries and better functional outcomes.
Dr. Vicente added that this advanced surgery contributes to greater functional preservation, particularly in aspects related to urinary continence and sexual function, crucial factors for the quality of life of urological patients.
Furthermore, the hospital has obtained accreditations for Da Vinci robotic surgery in the specialties of thoracic surgery, gynecology, otorhinolaryngology, and digestive surgery. This makes it the first private hospital in Andalusia accredited in five specialties.
Dr. Francisco Martí, medical director of HLA Universitario Inmaculada, noted that the integration of the robot represents a significant healthcare advancement for Urology in Granada, offering high-precision minimally invasive surgery without patients needing to travel to other provinces.
The Da Vinci robot is a minimally invasive technology that allows for complex surgeries with greater safety, eliminates surgeon's hand tremors, and provides an immersive 3D view for high precision. This results in fewer postoperative complications, shorter hospital stays, and better oncological outcomes and quality of life.
The system comprises a console for the surgeon, a robotic platform with 'arms', and an e-200 surgical generator. Dr. David Cuevas, the center's manager, stated that the e-200 system positions HLA Universitario Inmaculada as the only center in Granada with this technology and the second in Andalusia, emphasizing that the robot facilitates the surgeon's work without replacing them.
Dr. Puerto explained that patients benefit from smaller incisions, reduced intraoperative bleeding, less frequent transfusions, decreased postoperative pain, and lower infection risks. Intensive care unit (ICU) and total hospital stays are reduced by up to 40% compared to conventional surgery.
Surgery with the Da Vinci platform has demonstrated improved quality of life for patients with prostate conditions by reducing impotence and incontinence, and enhances oncological outcomes in patients with digestive tumors. The robot's precision minimizes complications and sequelae, while the enhanced vision facilitates more radical oncological surgeries.
The HLA Group already has five Da Vinci robots installed in other centers, accumulating experience since 2017. This experience and the group's networked approach will expedite the implementation at HLA Universitario Inmaculada, allowing quicker patient access to its benefits.
The integration of the Da Vinci robot elevates the surgical offerings of HLA Universitario Inmaculada, establishing it as a benchmark in Andalusian private healthcare. It is the only center in the region accredited in five specialties and the sole private facility in the province of Granada to feature this technology.
