In collaboration with the ONCE Social Group, these protective glasses will be distributed at various points nationwide. The Parque de las Ciencias in Granada has been designated as one of the distribution centers in Andalusia, alongside the Interactive Music Museum of Malaga (MIMMA). The glasses will also be available at ONCE sales points.
The campaign's objective is to ensure public safety when observing the astronomical event, known as the Trio of Eclipses, and to prevent irreversible retinal damage that can occur from direct sun exposure without adequate protection.
The Ministry of Science emphasizes the importance of using only glasses certified according to the ISO 12312-2 standard, which are free from damage such as scratches or perforations. It is advised to put them on before looking at the Sun, observe in short intervals, rest the eyes between observations, and remove them only when no longer looking at the Sun.
Furthermore, it is warned that observing the eclipse with optical instruments like binoculars, telescopes, or cameras without a professional solar filter installed on the front is unsafe. Direct viewing without protection can cause permanent retinal damage in seconds.
The total solar eclipse on August 12 is a highly anticipated astronomical event that will draw thousands of people to various locations in Spain. This government initiative seeks to provide free access to certified glasses at scientific centers and museums, allowing everyone to enjoy the spectacle with guarantees.
