Numerous municipalities in Granada felt a strong tremor following a double earthquake registered before 4:00 PM this Sunday. The first seismic event was located in Sayalonga, in the Axarquía region of Malaga, with a magnitude of 4.1, although it was very deep and barely noticeable. Immediately after, the National Geographic Institute (IGN) reported another tremor between the Granada municipalities of Ogíjares and La Malahá, with a magnitude of 3.7.
This second seismic event was strongly felt in Granada city and its Metropolitan Area due to its shallow depth of only six kilometers. The shaking caused numerous messages to circulate via WhatsApp and social media among Granadians, who described the scare as the ground moving and household furniture rattling.
Residents, whether in apartment buildings or in their cars, strongly felt the tremor, which brought to mind the seismic swarm that Granada experienced for months. At the moment, it is unknown if any material damage has occurred, although the earthquake has been described as intense in the Granadian capital.
