The reactivation of the VAU-5 project, announced by the Popular Party, has met with strong opposition from Adelante Andalucía. The Andalusian formation has supported proposals from groups such as Ecologistas en Acción and the Plataforma Defendamos la Vega, which aim to protect Granada's Vega.
“"We echo the historical demands of those who have been defending the Vega for years against projects that destroy fertile soil, fragment the territory, and consolidate a mobility model based on more traffic and more pollution."
Adelante Andalucía believes that the construction of new metropolitan highways represents an insistence on a completely obsolete model. Instead, they propose alternatives such as improving public transport and expanding the Metro in the Metropolitan Area.
The party emphasized that the Vega is not an empty space available for urbanization, but a fundamental agricultural, environmental, cultural, and landscape heritage. They noted that historical irrigation systems and traditional acequias are recognized as a Representative Manifestation of Intangible Cultural Heritage and are in the process of recognition by UNESCO, with legal protection in Andalusia.
Furthermore, Adelante Andalucía has supported the creation of an Agricultural Park of the Vega, an initiative that seeks to protect fertile land, promote local agricultural production, and strengthen the link between the Vega and the metropolitan area. This proposal aligns with the vision of a more livable and sustainable Granada.
Separately, in the Poniente de Granada region, the party has denounced the "deplorable" state of conservation of the road connecting the towns of El Turro and Castillo de Tajarja. This vital route for residents, also used by bus services, has severely deteriorated asphalt, posing a significant risk to road safety. This poor condition is not new, with residents and cyclists having reported issues for years.
