The investigation began after the arrest in Isla Cristina of two men navigating a suspicious vessel. The Integral Exterior Surveillance Service (SIVE) detected the boat, and upon realizing they had been spotted, the captain initiated a dangerous high-speed escape, endangering themselves, agents, other boaters, and swimmers. The vessel was eventually boarded but was found to be without narcotics.
The detainees, who will appear before a judge on Monday, are being questioned to determine if the fires – now stabilized in Ayamonte and extinguished in El Rompido – were intentionally set. The aim would be to divert law enforcement attention and allow illegal shipments to enter the Huelva coast.
Infoca personnel are working to extinguish the forest fire in the La Pedraza area of Ayamonte, which has been stabilized. This is the second fire recorded in the province, following the one in El Rompido, Cartaya, which has already been extinguished.
“"The captain was arrested. The crew jumped into the water, but one of the crew members was also intercepted by the authorities."
Meanwhile, in Algeciras, a suspected arsonist remains in custody after being arrested on Friday by the Local Police near the latest in a series of near-simultaneous fires. The suspect was apprehended carrying several lighters, with sooty clothing. Investigations are underway to determine if he acted alone, and his interrogation will be crucial.
