The municipality of Rota has announced an investment of 2.73 million euros to carry out eleven repair and modernization projects in the town's five public schools. These actions are part of the Plan 20M, funded by the state program "Construimos futuro" from the Ministry of Territorial Policy and Democratic Memory. The funds are intended to address damage caused by a rainstorm and strengthen educational infrastructure against future floods, affecting buildings that are mostly over fifty years old.
The mayor, José Javier Ruiz Arana, along with the delegate for Education, Laura Almisas, and municipal technicians, met with the educational centers' management teams to detail the works and propose a timeline. The objective is to coordinate the projects with the educational communities to minimize disruption to teaching activities and prioritize urgent interventions.
The planned interventions include facade waterproofing, roof repairs to prevent water infiltration and humidity, and the replacement of sanitation systems to improve drainage during heavy rainfall. Additionally, patios and sports areas will be renovated, featuring the installation of shaded areas, the creation of green spaces, and the modernization of outdoor equipment. A specific budget of 37,055 euros is allocated for renewing awnings in three of the schools.
In terms of investment volume, the Maestro Eduardo Lobillo school will receive the largest allocation with 878,999 euros for repairs to roofs, facades, and outdoor areas. It is followed by the Pedro Antonio de Alarcón center (607,694 euros) and the Azorín school (525,312 euros), focusing on the renovation of exterior surfaces and drainage systems. The Calasanz center will have 372,604 euros, and the Ponce de León school will receive 310,236 euros for waterproofing and facility renovations.
Through these investments, the municipality aims to ensure the structural stability of school buildings, enhance the centers' protection against weather events, and improve recreational areas for students.
