The Mayor of Sanlúcar, Carmen Álvarez, made this decision in line with the official mourning decreed by the central government for the same period. Flags at the City Hall and other municipal facilities will fly at half-mast.
As a sign of respect, all events scheduled for these three days have been suspended. The City Council had already joined the call for a minute of silence promoted by the Spanish Federation of Municipalities and Provinces (FEMP) last Wednesday.
“"We share the pain with the families and loved ones in these difficult times. We are following the situation caused by this tragic railway accident with deep concern. All our solidarity with the victims and their families, and all our support to the public services working on the emergency."
The mayor presided over the tribute ceremony at the entrance of the Municipal Palace, conveying the condolences of the City Council and the people of Sanlúcar to the families of the deceased and wishing a speedy recovery to those injured.
