The inaugural event, taking place at the Jardín de Las Piletas at 8:15 PM, will feature the free concert ‘Espejo de las estrellas’, a proposal of medieval and Hispanic music by Desirée Martín and Juan Manuel Román.
This week's program also includes the flamenco recital ‘Con sabor a mar. Cantes para Elcano’, with Jesús Castilla and Amara Román on vocals, Niño Manuel on guitar, and David Becerra on percussion. Servando Repetto will add flamenco notes to this event, also with free admission at Las Piletas.
On Thursday, September 3rd, the XI Foro Sanlúcar y los Océanos will begin, a series of conferences opened by Manuel Romero Tallafigo at the Castillito de Bajo de Guía, home of Exploraterra Sanlúcar. The following day, Friday the 4th, Caridad Vega's show ‘La travesía flamenca de Magallanes-Elcano’ will be presented at the Auditorio Municipal ‘Manolo Sanlúcar’.
On Saturday, September 5th, the beach near the Club de Actividades Náuticas ‘Eslora’ will host the Championship of Andalusia of Sea Kayak, the Medieval Market of Bajo de Guía, and the opening of the III Cycle 'La guitarra: Elcano del flamenco' at La Orilla.
The main day, Sunday, September 6th, will feature a grand historical reenactment of the landing of the 18 survivors of the First World Tour, led by Juan Sebastián Elcano. The parade will go from Bajo de Guía to the Castillo de Santiago, where the Dinner with Elcano will be held.
Mayor Carmen Álvarez has invited citizens to participate in this program, emphasizing that “our city has the pride of having been the starting and ending point of the greatest maritime adventure in history, a feat that marked a before and after in the history of humanity”.
