The documentary series ‘La más grande’, divided into four episodes, has premiered on Movistar Plus. The first installment was available from June 25th, with subsequent episodes airing weekly every Thursday. This release coincides with the twentieth anniversary of the iconic artist's death, which occurred on June 1st.
The production is directed by Alexis Morante, a filmmaker known for his music documentaries such as ‘Bisbal’ and ‘Camarón: Flamenco y Revolución’, the latter receiving a Goya nomination. The series is produced by Tesseo Premium Content.
“"I was a very insecure person. I believed everyone was very good and that I was worth nothing."
One of the distinctive features of ‘La más grande’ is its narrative approach. Rocío Jurado's voice, recovered from audio and visual archives, serves as the main protagonist across the four episodes. Chilean actress Daniela Vega acts as the narrator, complementing the historical material.
The series has benefited from the collaboration of Rocío Carrasco, the artist's daughter, who has provided access to a personal archive containing photographs, videos, live performance recordings, and an unpublished autobiography by Rocío Jurado.
The documentary extends beyond Rocío Jurado's musical career, placing her within her historical and social context. It examines how the artist, who rose to prominence during Spain's post-war era, reinvented herself to become an international icon, challenging the conventions of her time.
It also addresses the social and cultural transformation of Spain during the artist's career, linking her journey with the country's transition from dictatorship to democracy. Director Alexis Morante has highlighted the project's cinematic vision, using the artist's voice as its central axis.
‘La más grande’ joins other productions by Movistar Plus dedicated to prominent figures in the Spanish artistic scene, such as those made about Lola Flores, Raphael, and Alaska.
