The mayor of Motril, Luisa García Chamorro, visited the 'La Zafra' Active Participation Center for Seniors to oversee renovation work on a wall that was hindering various activities. The visit was also attended by the Deputy Mayor for Citizen Participation and Social Action, Inmaculada Torres, the Councilor for Municipal Maintenance, José Balderas, and the center's president, María del Carmen López.
These centers serve as key meeting points to invigorate the lives of seniors. Following an adaptation period and the commencement of registrations in July, the annual activities will resume in October, coinciding with the Senior Day celebration on October 1st. Cognitive workshops, healthy lifestyle activities, dancing, and other programs will be reinstated.
The mayor explained that the renovation responds to a request from the users themselves, who pointed out that the wall divided the space without apparent utility, limiting activities such as dance workshops or those requiring more room. The project aims to enhance comfort and enable new activities.
García Chamorro emphasized the government team's priority on the well-being of seniors and thanked Councilor José Balderas for his prompt attention to this demand. The separation wall is expected to be removed in the coming days, adapting the center to user needs.
Furthermore, it was reported that the issue concerning the opening of the 'Andalucía' Active Participation Center on Ancha street is being addressed. A budgetary modification will allow for the hiring of staff to manage the opening and closing responsibilities, ensuring its normal operation from October onwards.
María del Carmen López, the center's president, expressed her satisfaction with the work, which will provide more space for activities like sewing workshops or dance classes, enriching the lives of the users.
The mayor concluded by stating that Motril has a very active senior population, and these centers are a fundamental pillar for the government team, which will continue to support their dynamism and manage activities to ensure seniors enjoy a fulfilling life after their working years.
