The Motril City Council has completed over 60 interventions in all city schools during the summer period, focusing on the maintenance and improvement of facilities. These works will continue using municipal surplus funds.
On the occasion of the start of the new 2026/2027 school year, the mayor of Motril, Luisa García Chamorro, accompanied by the delegate councilor for Education, Mayte Jiménez, and the director of CEIP Cardenal Belluga, Francisco Barros, visited the educational center. Nearly 4,200 infant and primary students are beginning their classes.
The overall investment made by the Motril City Council for the improvement and maintenance of schools amounts to nearly one million euros, financed with its own funds. The mayor emphasized the importance of these actions to ensure the best educational conditions and expressed gratitude to the teachers for their work.
Maintenance tasks, which included checks on metalwork, plumbing, electricity, and painting, have been carried out in all public schools in Motril. Specifically, at Cardenal Belluga, one of the courtyards will be repaired, a leak problem will be resolved, and the old infant level building will be addressed.
Other notable actions include the repair of bathrooms at CEIP Mariana Pineda and CEIP Pablo Ruiz Picasso, as well as the improvement of waterproofing at CEIP Príncipe Felipe and repairs at CEIP Los Álamos.
In addition to the maintenance investment, 400,000 euros will be allocated for the replacement and improvement of all playgrounds in the educational centers. The council has also applied for a 500,000 euro subsidy from European funds for the installation of pergolas, aimed at mitigating the effects of climate change and combating heat.
