With just over a month until summer begins, the residents of the Costa Tropical are closely monitoring the progress of beach regeneration works. Since early April, trucks and cranes have been operating across various coastal municipalities, moving materials to restore areas affected by winter storms.
The Spanish Government, through the Provincial Coast Service, has allocated nearly 3 million euros for the rehabilitation of the Costa Tropical. This investment is part of a 12 million euro package aimed at various actions in Andalusian municipalities damaged by meteorological events.
Prior to Holy Week, Costas had already carried out specific interventions along Granada's coastline to ensure beach safety during the holiday period. Currently, in mid-May, efforts are concentrated on particularly affected areas, such as Punta del Santo.
This area, which marks the boundary between Playa Granada and Playa de Poniente, home to the Hoyo 19 beach bar, suffered significant damage. The local breakwater lost its final section due to strong waves, and the beach has been reduced to less than half its original size. The storm left the Hoyo 19 beach bar almost suspended in the air, and what were once ample sandy stretches are now covered by the sea.
Since last week, an intensification of work has been observed in Punta del Santo. On Monday, May 11, trucks loaded with stones from various quarries delivered material, while other machines moved large volumes of sand. Although the exact completion date for all works on the Costa Tropical remains unknown, the Spanish Government's objective is to finish them as soon as possible for the enjoyment of residents and visitors this summer.
