Since Friday, five tuna groups have enlivened the historic center of Almuñécar, filling its squares, shops, and restaurants with music and atmosphere. This event was held to commemorate the 40th anniversary of the Tuna de Ciencias of the University of Granada.
The initiative, organized in collaboration with the Almuñécar City Council and the University of Granada, transformed the municipality into a large open-air musical stage for two days. Residents and visitors enjoyed parades, serenades, and spontaneous performances throughout the weekend.
The festive atmosphere was particularly notable during Friday's large parade and the serenade contest held under the City Hall balcony, where hundreds of people joined the tunas with songs, flag dances, and tambourines.
On Saturday, El Majuelo Park was the main stage for the contest, featuring performances by the Female Tuna of Health Sciences of Málaga, the Tuniña of Eindhoven, the Tuna de Peritos of Algeciras, and the Tuna de Ingenieros Agrónomos of Orihuela. The Tuna de Ciencias of the University of Granada offered a special performance alongside the Almuñécar Municipal Music Band.
The event also had a charitable aspect, with part of the proceeds benefiting the Afavida association, while the Cofradía de San Juan managed the bar service. The jury awarded first prize to the Tuna de Peritos of Algeciras, in a contest that left a mark of music, camaraderie, and university tradition in Almuñécar, with the intention of consolidating itself in future editions.
